It’s a Techie Day today.
This morning we have a special guest join our Saturday MASA (Media Arts Santa Ana) MILPA (Millennial Producers Academy) class. Sean Glumace from 2CPR Group is doing a workshop on Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Spark and other free production apps. It’s amazing what tools are available today. Adobe Spark is like having a graphic designer, an animator and an optical printer all in your back pocket!
MILPA, like MASA, is a play on words. Both are corn related. Masa is the adaptable corn dough used in infinite ways throughout Latin America. Milpa is a cornfield. The reason behind this program is to develop local media talent with regional producers and businesses. Too often, kids with technical skills feel pressured to leave their hometowns for the big city in search of jobs. This brain drain severs inter-generational ties and familial support networks. Hopefully the support we give our group of up-and-coming producers will enhance opportunities and open up more career options closer to home.
My husband and I founded this non-profit about five years ago in the hopes of bridging the digital divide in ethnic communities.
